Lisa (“Nanda” as she is also known to friends and family) and Roberto Polito
welcome our ESCAPESEEKER team to their Tuscan estate in Bolgheri.
Mouth-watering, deliciously sweet grapes from the
Politos own vineyard. I couldn’t stop eating them!
By the way, my pretty purple hat is compliments of
Nanda. I love it. Thank you very much Nanda.
Luca Magni, the Politos eldest son, takes me on a tour
of their estate, sharing wonderful stories of his youth…
carefree time spent frolicking on the grounds of their
beautiful Tuscan surroundings.
Mr. Polito meticulously designed and supervised the
cultivation of every inch of his estate’s landscape, often
doing the work himself. Mr. Polito shared that when he
purchased the land, that it definitely did not look like it
does today, a true Tuscan oasis resulting from three decades
of tender loving care.
The interior/exterior is designed and tailored
for family gatherings full of unique furniture
and art work…or furniture that looks like a piece of
art, much of which was found during their many travels.
No need to explain how much Gabes loved this
comfortable patio chair.
Nanda, Roberto and Luca took us to the charming village
of BOLGHERI where they treated us to an absolutely
delicious lunch composed of Tuscan delicacies, including
a wine produced from their grapes…yes, from the same
vineyard I had been ‘snacking’ from earlier! Roy will be
happy to know that the Politos sent me home with a special
bottle just for his enjoyment. Their gracious hospitality and
generosity is beyond description! Our ESCAPESEEKER team
has been richly blessed by this special La Dolce Vita filming
assignment.

TUSCANY – It is with great reluctance that our ESCAPESEEKER team leaves this visually stunning region of Italy. But we depart this morning with genuine heartfelt joy and gratitude for the “once in a lifetime experiences” (as our DP, Marty Metcalf calls them) we have shared –much of which has been captured and immortalized on digital cinematography.
There are times when it is fitting to borrow the writings of another author who have walked the path you’ve walked, and with their own power of the pen, composed so eloquently the essence of your own experience and sentiments–this is one of those occasions. What more can I possibly add to this excerpt from the biography of Michelangelo, The Agony and the Ecstasy by Irving Stone, wherein he describes TUSCANY–the Tuscany we, too, have come to know and embrace…I shall never lose my child-like enthusiasm for this country endowed with so much beauty…and populated with people of such passion and grace. On behalf of our entire ESCAPESEEKER team, Thank you Roberto, Lisa, and Luca for sharing your time with us and giving us an insider’s look at your own TUSCAN HEAVEN!
“Tuscany is a state of grace. The countryside is so lovingly designed that the eye sweeps the mountains and valleys without stumbling over a single stone. The lilt of the rolling green hills, the upsurging cypresses, the terraces sculptured by generations that have handled the rocks with skillful tenderness, the fields geometrically juxtaposed as though drawn by a draftsman for beauty as well as productivity; the battlements of castles on the hills, their tall towers standing gray-blue and golden tan among the forest of trees, the air of such clarity that every sod of earth stands out in dazzling detail…”
Another example of the beautiful vista from the Politos vineyard!
ESCAPESEEKER team captures a superb afternoon
spent with Roberto and Lisa Polito. Roberto enjoyed
reviewing the footage from our outstanding BIG RED
state-of-the-Art High Def camera!
Our ESCAPESEEKER team has thoroughly enjoyed making friends here…several Florentine families on holiday enthusiastically agreed to be captured on film as they savored their holiday beneath Tuscan sunshine!
If you wish a bit of a reprieve from the sun and sea…
these shaded beach cabanas are a nice option.
My day at the Punta Ala International Golf Club…Wow, we had such a great time…but don’t take my word for it…stay tuned to ESCAPESEEKER episode, La Dolce Vita, and you’ll see what Marty (skillfully) captured on camera!
Even Alessandro, who arranged our day of filming at the Punta Ala International Golf Club was impressed by my golfing “finesse” as Marty likes to call it.
Ok, maybe not on every hole. 🙂
Gabes and I at sunset, enjoying our not so typical
pre-dinner delicacies at Residence Alleluja’s sister
hotel, Hotel Cala Del Porto. Perfecto!
You can imagine our delight upon seeing this view…
we immediately felt right at home!
Speaking of HOME…this is the main interior “living room”
where the guests at Residence Alleluja can lounge,
watch TV, read, or just enjoy an afternoon tea, or pre-dinner
drinks with friends.
Oh the Sweet Life…Tuscan style…
Our own private beach at Residence Alleluja
She was born to be a STAR! 🙂 Her future is in the hands of
our talented team, two of whom are pictured above–
Marty Metcalf, our DP, and his superb assistant, Howard Little.
Everything about Punta Ala seem to agree with Gabes.
This was shot in total natural light…Punta Ala’s light…
Our dinner view each night at the splendid Hotel Cala Del Porto!
It was tough to say goodbye to our beloved Venice…little
did we know what was in store for us in Punta Ala. When
things are going well, remember that they can always get,
even better!
Thank you Alessandro FICHERA for bringing us to Punta Ala…
for helping our team capture the best footage each day…and for
making sure our stay is one we will always remember.

PUNTA ALA–September 8, 2008:
Mel aka ESCAPESEEKER offers a recipe for the SWEET LIFE:
Take Italian hospitality, set against the backdrop of aquamarine blue Tyrrhenian sea, drenched in the soothing heat of the Fall Tuscan sun, as it caresses the shores of Punta Ala–a seaside town whose shoulders rest upon a deeply wooded mountain countryside.
Then add the exquisite flavors of ancient recipes perfected from years of cultivating Mediterranean delicacies, and you definitely have the recipe for the best kept Italian secret: LA DOLCE VITA—PUNTA ALA STYLE! It is so apropos that our residence of choice while living the sweet life is called, RESIDENCE ALLELUJA! And the ALLELUJA chorus is exactly what our filming team has been singing since we’ve arrived!
After completing three previous filming assignments in three very challenging, albeit exciting locations, it is a welcome reprieve to arrive in Punta Ala, a true oasis—a perfect gathering place for family and friends. Just take a look at these images captured by our ESCAPESEEKER still photographer—our own CHAD BUCHANAN, and you will see just how much the SWEET LIFE agrees with Gabrielle, as well as the rest of our ESCAPESEEKER team. The scent of evergreen trees combined with eucalyptus trees perfume the air. And, you know how healing I believe being near the sea can be…and let’s just say, this travel worn team is definitely starting to look and feel better with every passing day spent at this truly Tuscan retreat. All I can say is ALLELUJA!
Sending you love, joy, and some perfect Tuscan sunshine…
ESCAPESEEKER and “A Team” (Gabrielle, Maggie, Chad, Marty and Howard)
My new ESCAPESEEKER co-host, Gabrielle, found walking the Red Carpet a bit frightening, but you wouldn’t ever guess it from these photos!
Following the RACHEL GETTING MARRIED Venice Premiere, we proceeded to join the film’s Director, Jonathan Demme with star, Anne Hathaway, at the Luna Hotel Baglioni where SONY PICTURES, ESCAPESEEKER, and BAGLIONI HOTELS COLLECTION jointly hosted the post premiere party! If you would like to see photos from the party, just log on to www.Gettyimages.com and search for: 65th Venice Film Festival Images by Chad Buchanan.
The images are copyrighted so I cannot post them on my blog. Thanks alot Chad! 🙂
The adventure continues. We are in Venice for another two days of shooting and then it’s off to the Tuscan seaside, Punta Ala.
Gabes is having an absolute adventure living LA DOLCE VITA!
Stay tuned…
Love,
Escapeseeker
Just wanted to drop a quick note to update you on the ESCAPESEEKER team’s filming status. In one sentence, it has been an absolute RUSH–both in emotion and in the speed by which we are moving from location to location. And, oh my gosh, one more word about getting the ultimate RUSH–How about the sheer thrill of driving a LAMBORGHINI going 200 kilometers per hour? Been there, didn’t do exactly that…LAMBORGHINI’s seasoned driver was behind the wheel–THANK GOODNESS for that…especially since our team driver, Vances, was driving the advance car–a Mercedes with Dale shooting from the trunk of the car! You wanna know about COURAGE and TRUST? Our team has it all.
Now, if that isn’t thrilling enough, tomorrow I’m going behind the wheel of a FERRARI…all captured in HIGH DEF by big RED–our amazing state of the art high def camera. Both of our photogs, Dale Green and Howard Little are getting some mighty muscles lugging this 50 pound RED camera around.
Oh, shoot, speaking of RED, our DP, Dale, is giving me the signal…gotta go for now. We’re filming a segment in my stunning suite at the BERNINI PALACE HOTEL in Florence. I’ll be back to write more details after we finish. This is a lot of HARD WORK. But, we are having an absolute blast! You should see us trying to load our equipment onto the Euro Star from Bologna to Florence. What an adventure our team is having!
Thanks, Maggie Garratt, Dale Green, Howard Little, and Gabrielle Gee, for all your hard work and dedication!
By the way, my co-host, Gabrielle is a real NATURAL in front of the camera…it is as if she’s been doing it all her life! We shot an entire segment of her jogging up the porticos to San Luca Basilica, overlooking the city of Bologna, and she never even broke out in a sweat! What a star!
Ok team, one down and only six more to go.
Back in a flash,
Mel and the rough and tough filming team of ESCAPESEEKER!
But beyond its superb championship golf courses designed by Arnold Palmer, a plethora of activities await every guest, each one tailor-made to meet their expectations.
Here are just a few of the unforgettable experiences we’ve engaged in thus far. By the way, photos to accompany these fun activities will be posted in just a few hours after our photographer completes submitting them. So, please stay tuned. The images will truly speak volumes! 1) Fly Fishing: Have you ever yearned to know what it feels like to cast a line and relish the exciting tug of a vibrant rainbow trout–and thereafter, watching him dance across the fast moving river as he challenges your strength and prowess as you skillfully reel him in? (Ok, in my case, the skill and guidance came compliments of the K Club’s expert fisherman, Albert.) With a slight kiss, I thanked him for the rush and thrill of the sport, and sent him swiftly back into the rushing river…so someone else can enjoy the next dance. 🙂 I’m definitely hooked on the sport!2) Golf at The K Club: The Palmer Course and The Smurfit Course are considered two of Ireland’s finest championship golf courses! And, even before tackling either one, we were granted the finest golf pro teacher any of us had ever encountered. She’s Head Golf Professional, Lynn McCool. She made every minute count as she shared her secrets to keeping our swing consistent…consistently good that is! With her Irish sense of humor, and superb people skills, even I learned to be a better golfer. As a matter of fact, I think I’m now addicted to the sport! Playing golf in this heavenly setting, who wouldn’t be?
3) The K Spa: Honestly, can our job get any tougher? The K Spa brought the best elements from the world’s renowned spas to Ireland offering a selection of holistic natural treatments filled with calming and harmonizing natural fragrances. Ok, maybe I haven’t found just a slice of heaven–I’ve found two! After being treated by Lesley’s natural gift of healing, I felt totally de-stressed, especially after our long and extensive weeks of travel. Thank you Lesley for helping me regain my body’s sense of balance.
4) Clay Pigeon Shooting: With the aid of an expert, the three of us didn’t take long before we were aiming right on target and blasting the “flock” of clay pigeons towards every direction. I didn’t engage in the sport as long as my other two colleagues–who found it extremely satisfying. I just wanted to do it so that I could check it off my life’s “bucket list”!
5) Dining: With three outstanding restaurants on the property, I must confess, our team has become proficient at dining, particularly enjoying the ultimate 5-star dining experiences at The Byerley Turk and The River Room Restaurant overlooking the gardens and river. There are scales in our suites that prove it too! 🙂
Well, I’ve gotta run for now so I can enjoy the K Club’s fully equipped gymnasium with state-of-the-art life-fitness equipment. I need to “earn” my next superbly prepared meal–honestly, it makes my mouth water just thinking about the varied dishes, including homestyle Irish recipes exquisitely prepared by the K Club’s finest chefs!
The beautiful images above (with the exception of the top one as noted) was provided by The K Club. I’ll be back to share some additional outstanding images captured by our own photographer, Chad Buchanan, during our many activities mentioned above.
Have a TREMENDOUS day everyone,
Mel aka ESCAPESEEKER

ESCAPESEEKER
Redefines the meaning of “Cruising Main”…
This is definitely Life Imitating Art!
Our ESCAPESEEKER team wishes to thank the tremendous staff of the Luna Baglioni for making our stay ever so special…and for making us feel like family.
Con tutti i nostri cuori, Grazie.

Well, yesterday was one lucky day for our
ESCAPESEEKER team–Chad, Nicole and yours truly. After Roberto served us some of the most delicious Venetian dishes we’ve ever tasted, he said, “Would you like to see the Venice I know from my boat?” Our team just looked up and in a chorus said, “WELL, YES, ABSOLUTELY!!!”I could go on and on about the most magnificent sites we were able to partake of from his 100-year old wooden boat–which is so apropos–it just fits the entire historic ambiance of Venice…even nature provided the perfect lighting for Chad’s continuous clicking–capturing one gorgeous, priceless image after another as Roberto navigated our way from one tight spot to another with such ease. And, when Chad happen to mention how much he loved the vivid colors of Venice, Roberto responded, “Oh that’s nothing…you want to see colors, I will show you.” We then proceeded to navigate our way to the Grand Canal and onto more open waterways (pass Venice’s historic cemetery where many members of Venetian’s upper class are laid to rest) which further out led us to Murano (famous for Venetian glassmaking, and glass art), and eventually to the rainbow colored splashed island of Burano! Chad got his fill of color on that island!
And, what’s really cool, we threw in some fun, frolicking photos too, especially as we worked our way back to Roberto’s home, including the one above of me testing to see if I can still jump like a college cheerleader (especially since I had the very big birthday the other day). I just had to try it…and on Venice’s oldest bridge nonetheless. Oh the joys of being the ESCAPESEEKER!
Gotta run, we’re boarding another plane to Edinburgh! I promise to post more photos of our Venetian experience once I’m settled in. The entire experience is so TV ready–from our special Sunday described above, to the impeccable service we received at the Luna Baglioni Hotel–especially from the Luna’s
CANOVA restaurant staff, Rami Hamam and his very expressive and helpful assistant, Antonella. Rami “conducts” the restaurant like a musical conductor directs his orchestra–not a single sour note–all the guests are treated to a harmonious feast of artistically prepared and presented cuisine. I am missing the Luna already! But, another
ESCAPESEEKER adventure awaits…I believe I’m going to need a sweater this time around. Goodbye Venice, Hello Edinburgh!Ciao,
